The Project: Residence at the Andalusia Country Club
The Place: La Quinta, California
The Conversation: Our client, from Toronto, Canada contacted us shortly after they purchased the lot and began construction for their winter home in La Quinta, California. The site featured spectacular views of the rolling Rees Jones designed golf course nestled at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains. With great appreciation for art and design, our client had one concern: the architecture throughout the country club is Spanish Revival and they love modern design. Could we find a way blend the two styles that would feel harmonious and intentional?
The Design Story: It is not uncommon in Europe to find modern interiors inserted into antique structures. We enriched portions of the exterior of the residence with traditional Moroccan style tile, weathered gates, vintage hardware and traditional Spanish paving patterns to enhance the contrast with the modern interiors. We inserted slabs of marble, steel and glass partitions, contemporary millwork into a white interior envelope. The interior is filled with modern furnishings and the Owner’s eclectic art collection. The result is refreshing, colorful and personal to our client. We call this project the Modern Hacienda and is a signature style that we have developed.
